Since its establishment in 1831, NYU has been an modernizer in higher education, reaching out to an developing middle class, embracing an urban identity and professional focus, and promoting a worldwide vision that informs its 19 schools and colleges.

Today, that trailblazing spirit makes NYU one of the most protuberant and respected research colleges in the world, containing top-ranked academic programs and accepting fewer than one-in-five scholars. Anchored in New York City and with degree-granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai as well as 11 education away sites throughout the world, NYU is a leader in worldwide teaching, with more international students and more students studying overseas than any other US university.

NYU students come from nearly every state and 133 countries, and the university draws upon the varied backgrounds of our faculty, staff, and students, guaranteeing its scholarship and teaching advantage from a wide range of perspectives. NYU takes seriously its role as an engine of social flexibility, and stands out among the top US universities in its picture of low-income and first-generation scholars within its community.

Now amongst the largest private universities in the US, NYU provides a rigorous, demanding education to more than 50,000 scholars and undertakes nearly $1 billion in research yearly. It counts among its faculty receivers of the highest scholarly honors and is a top producer of patents and income from licensing among US universities. NYU has a vast network of alumni who have gone on to succeed across professions, from the sciences to the arts and administration, throughout the world.

NYU Civil Engineering

Since its inception, NYU has been a distinctly urban university, one that NYU founder, Albert Gallatin, called a university that is “in and of the city.” Today, the University has evolved into a university that is “in and of the countless cities of the world.” NYU’s global network comprises three degree-granting portal grounds: one in the heart of New York City, a second in Abu Dhabi, and a third in Shanghai.

NYU’s more than 50,000 scholars study more than 4,000 sequences in hundreds of degree and non-degree programs at sites around the world. In addition to the three portal grounds, students can study abroad at global academic centers in Accra, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, Madrid, London, Paris, Prague, Tel Aviv, Sydney, and Washington, DC.

Like numerous Ivy League schools, NYU is one of the most protuberant and respected research universities globally. The world-class academic programs ensure that those who alumna from New York University have the chance to influence the world.

Is NYU an Ivy League School?

Although NYU is not an Ivy League school, it is frequently considered on par with the Ivies due to researchers, research, and athletic respect. In fact, the school was professed as a “New Ivy” by Newsweek due to its impressive admissions statistics and excellence education.

The Ivy League instigated as an athletic session of eight private research colleges competing in NCAA Division I. Over time, this collective of elite colleges began to signify moot excellence and discrimination along with athletic success. These universities are well-recognized names around the world and scholars excel in a variety of fields. The selective Ivy League group is made up of the University of Pennsylvania, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

Though many other universities have similar academic and athletic standards to the Ivies, this discerning group does not take any new members. Certain of the top schools in the world counting Stanford, MIT, and Caltech are not part of the Ivy League but last to top rankings and drive innovation around the world.

Similarly, NYU is a famous university with exciting research and moot opportunities for students. New York University is particularly well-known for their social disciplines, philosophy, commercial, law, and performing arts programs.

Their athletic packages have won multiple league finals and three Division III national championships in basketball, golf, and cross country. Their impressive Division I fencing team has successfully won 12 national championships, the most names out of any team.

Why NYU is Often Confused as an Ivy League School

NYU is often disordered as an Ivy League School due to its unique resources and high discrimination. Overall, the university has a competitive taking rate of 16%. The College of Arts and Science is even more selective, dropping to an 10.6% admission rate. This school is as modest as Ivy League schools, even more discerning than Cornell.

New York University receives the most requests out of any private institution, counting all eight Ivies. The impressive programs and opportunities offered have fortified more and more scholars to apply every year. In 2020, NYU developed the first private university in the United States to exceed 100,000 applications.

To support teaching, investigation, and the school’s overall assignment, NYU receives important financial support not only from alumni, but from other members of its public. The university’s endowment reached $4.7 billion in 2020, on par with Brown University.

This financial provision enables research crossways the university in a variety of fields. In 2017, NYU spent $917.7 million in research expenditures. This strange amount is similar and even exceeds the research spending of many Ivy League schools, including Princeton, Yale, Cornell, and Columbia. Because of their investigation prowess, the Carnegie Classification has labeled NYU as an R1 Doctoral University with very high investigation activity.

NYU is also similar to Ivy League universities in terms of future success. Students graduating from the university are extremely employable, with 96.2% of scholars working or in a graduate program after 6 months.

The regular annual salary of NYU scholars is a respectable $61,500. Other schools report an even higher preliminary salary, with Stern School of Business scholars earning $76,000 on regular. This rate is on par with recent Ivy League grads who characteristically make around $80,000.

How do I become a Civil Engineer (for K-12 Students)

In high school, it is significant to focus on subjects like math, science, and humanities. You will too need to enroll in an ABET Accredited Bachelors of Civil Engineering program.  Most scholars complete the program in 4 years and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam upon advancement.  After acquiring four years of professional knowledge, engineers can sit for the Professional Engineering (PE) Exam, and develop licensed.  In the US, like most professions, the expert practice of engineering is state-regulated.   Each state has somewhat different licensure rules, in footings of experience and education, but all require the FE and PE examinations.  Most states require that engineers participate in 12 hours of continuing education activities, yearly,  with some states requiring one or two hours of ethics training yearly.

The purpose of engineering licensure is to defend and enhance the health, safety, and welfare of the public.  Certain engineers are licensed in many states, others are not licensed at all; although the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) “endorses, ropes and promotes the expert licensure of engineers with appropriate standards for education, knowledge, examination, continuing professional development, and expert conduct”.

Many Civil Engineers seek further specialism by obtaining a Masters degree focused on one of the subspecialties of civil engineering. Those who want to advance even more must go for a Doctorate Degree.
